How Much Money Can I Make With Google Adsense?

How much do you want to make? How hard do you want to work? And how much time do you want to spend working the Google Adsense program?

These are the questions you must ask yourself in order to answer that question.

Look at it this way: how many business opportunities come your way where the only requirement is hard work and the time it takes to work hard? Not many. Almost any business venture requires some kind of start-up money.

If your total earnings is showing 0.00 after a week, not to worry. Keep reading and learning and working. If however, you’re still showing 0.00 after a month, it may be time to implement some of those optimization tips you’ll find on the Google Adsense Support Site. Play around with the placement of the ads on your site. Consider changing the colors. Look again at the content. Is it interesting?

As with any other business, with the Google Adsense program, the sky is the limit. Work hard. Work smart. Have fun. After all, you’re the boss.

What Are URL Channels and How to Organize Them in Google Adsense

URL Channels allow you to view detailed information about the performance of your Adsense for Content pages.

Suppose you have a blog at writingup.com and you also have a blog at bloggerparty.com. It might be interesting and profitable to track which one is getting more clicks. Log in to your Adsense account and click on Adsense for Content. Scroll down until you see Channels and click on manage channels. You may need to scroll up when the next page loads. Under Manage URL Channels you would type writingup.com and click on Create New Channel. You will immediately see writingup.com in the Active URL Channels dialogue box Now type in bloggerparty.com in the same channel text box and again click on Create New Channel. You now have two channels and you will be able to track your progress on each channel. You can view channel reports from the Advanced Report page under the Reports tab. Choose Adsense for Content, choose the date range and then select the Channels Data radio button. Choose any number of active channels by holding down the CTRL key. Next click on Display Report. It’s as easy as that.

While talking about Google AdSense, we must not forget that Google is primarily known for its search engine capabilities (in fact, it is one of the most powerful search engines available today). So, how could Google leave out it search engine capabilities from its AdSense program?

‘AdSense for Search’ is how Google includes search engine bit into the Google AdSense program. ‘AdSense for Search’ can actually be termed as a sibling of Google AdSense program and is one great way of increasing website revenue for website owners. To implement ‘AdSense for search’, you just have to include the Google search box on your website. Again, Google offers the code that you need to use for including Google search box. You just have to paste the code at whatever place you deem as the most appropriate place for Google search box.

When your website visitors use Google search bar on your website, they get almost the same results as they would by using Google separately through Google.com. When these website visitors click the search results, the website owner earns revenue (CPC revenue). You can even include AdSense Ads on the search results page and earn CPM or CPC revenue from them. Also, you can customize the search results page to suit your website’s theme. So, Google AdSense for search is one great way of making money just by including the Google search bar on your website. Besides that, the visitors to your website get an additional functionality through your website i.e. the facility to search the web using one of the most powerful search engine (without leaving your website).

‘AdSense for search’ is a great way of earning revenue through your website (and, in fact, one of the easiest ways too). A number of website owner actually use both the ‘AdSense for Search’ and the regular ‘AdSense for content’ in order to maximize their revenue.

Google Adsense is nice way to make a little extra money. It’s important to follow the rules though as Google is serious about the integrity of this program. Not following the rules could result in your Google Adsense account being terminated. Here are a few Dos for using the program:

DO

Read the Terms and Conditions and Program Policies thoroughly.

Read everything you can about Google Adsense. Learn from others’ experiences and mistakes.

Learn how to optimize your site for the most enjoyable and profitable Google Adsense experience. Realize it does take some time and hard work. That’s why it’s so important that you write about something you care about. Hard work is even harder if you don’t like what you’re doing.

Visit other sites that are benefiting from Google Adsense. Click on the ads only if you are truly interested in the product or service being advertised. Read other people’s blogs and comment on them. Only offer a comment though if it is truly sincere.

Hopefully, these helpful tips will ease you into using the program and help you avoid mistakes that could possibly cost you a lot of time or money.

DON’T

Never, ever, ever click on your own ads. Google Adsense makes it very clear this won’t be tolerated.

Don’t ask your friends and family to click on your ads. Rather, earn money by referring them to the Google Adsense program.

Don’t participate in the Google Adsense program strictly for the money. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It will take time and hard work to make a profit.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything the first day. Although the Google Adsense program is extremely user-friendly, it may take a little time to integrate all the facets of the program. Be patient and above all, have fun!

Hopefully, these helpful tips will ease you into using the program and help you avoid mistakes that could possibly cost you a lot of time or money.

After further investigation it appears that I did not drop of the face of the earth in the search rankings when I added Bidvertiser on my blogs. What has happened to the best that I can tell is that the adding of the Bidvertiser script is interfering with the Google Analytics script. However, I am able to track the Google Analytics through a plugin without a problem. So it appears that I have panicked for no good reason. Although it does appear as if I fell in the Yahoo search rankings. But I seem to be holding on to the few Google search positions that I held.

And actually I made a few cents in the first few days that Bidvertiser was on one of my blogs. Maybe it will continue to make a little money. Only time will tell.

I just happend to check into my eHow account earlier today (I haven’t paid attention to it for quite awhile) and saw that the four articles that I have on eHow have averged about .50 cents per month. Now that may not seem like a lot but eHow articles don’t take a lot to put together. So tonight I added three more articles. Over the next month or so I will try to add 30 – 50 articles. Then in another month I will see if that figure of 50 cents per article holds true. If it does then 200 articles would net about $100 per month.

I will let you know of my progress.

Just a couple of days ago I told you that I was adding Bidvertiser to a few of my blogs. I was curious how my search rankings would be affected if I added them. I mentioned this in the post Make Money Online with Bidvertiser. Well it appears as if Bidvertiser was the kiss of death.

Now I am not trying to pretend that I have a great readership to any of my blogs. I do not but on a couple of them I had start to pick up some organic search traffic from both Google and Yahoo. Yahoo owns Bidvertiser by the way.

I knew that Google often penalizes blogs or websites whenever Adsense is added as a way of making money online. I find this somewhat ridiculous but that is a rant for yet another day. But I wasn’t sure what they would do if I added Bidvertiser. Well apparently someone didn’t like it.

I added Bidvertiser on December 28th on four blogs including this one. (That means there is probably no one reading this now.) Below you will see two different graphs from my Google Analytics account that measures daily traffic flow. The flat lines after the trending lines are December 29th and December 30th. In other words Bidvertiser dealt a death blow to both of my blogs. So much for making money online.

Now as you can tell there was not a large readership. However, in just about a month I had built up to 31 unique visits per day on the Body Weight Exercise blog and between 10 and 15 on the Burn Calories Lose Weight blog. Now that count sets at zero. Thank you Bidvertiser and Yahoo for nothing.

At this point I am not sure what I am going to do. I can remove Bidvertiser to see if that makes a difference or I can leave it alone and see if the visitors return.

The odd thing is that I still rank on the second page of Google (for now) for the phrase “bodyweight exercise.” It hasn’t changed. I think I rank on page 4 for the same phrase in Yahoo. That fell from page two.

In the past I ranked on the first page in Yahoo for the term “burn calories lose weight” (as of just a couple days ago). Now I am nowhere to be found in their search rankings. It seems Yahoo slapped me pretty hard. I find this ironic since they send me emails all the time (through Bidvertiser) on how to place the ads on my blog to get better visibility. Talk about a double standard.

Just thought I would give you a heads up. Don’t make the same mistake. I am not sure when it is safe to monetize your blog with either Adsense of Bidvertiser. Just don’t do what I did (at least not if you ever care about making money online).

I am sorry it has taken a few days to get back to posting on this blog. I have been a little under the weather and I was out of town for four days. I cannot begin to tell you how much I detest winter. I can't wait until the warmth of summer begins, but in my neck of the country that is a long time away.

It seems like everywhere you go these days you are bombarded by Social Networking. Sites like Twitter, Friendfeed, Digg, Propeller, etc. The big question is, however, do these social networks help you make money online? I must admit that sometimes I struggle to see how they can. I am a slow convert to this whole area. I do not like Twittering at all. To me it is a hassle, but I understand its value to an established business.

I am sorry it has taken a few days to get back to posting on this blog. I have been a little under the weather and I was out of town for four days. I cannot begin to tell you how much I detest winter. I can’t wait until the warmth of summer begins, but in my neck of the country that is a long time away.

Here is my cynical take on Twitter and its ability to help you make money online. For those who are successful online already Twitter is an incredible tool because they can send quick broadcast messages to thousands of people who are following them. They have the ability to make large amounts of money online because they have an established reputation with these individuals.

I have no established reputation in the realm of internet marketing. Heck, I don’t have a great established reputation in my own household. Twitter is filled with people like me who randomly so searching for someone to follow in hopes that they may follow you in return. Then you get to send messages to people who may have no interest in your blog or article or affiliate product. It will generate traffic but the question is whether it is worth it or not?

If you have adsense on your site you will most likely get penalized because your click through rate will probably drop to new lows. If this is the case, then social network traffic is probably not something you want to drive to an adsense site.

I don’t understand all that goes into determining page rank in Google, Yahoo, etc but since they keep track of time spent on the page, I would imagine that it comes in to play somewhere in the search algorithms. If this is true then I would imagine that social networking traffic is not what you would want. They would most likely click there and then quickly click away. You got a visitor but beyond that it didn’t do you any good and it very well may penalize you if enough of the people do the same thing.

I would think that what the average internet marketer is after individuals who may have an interest in the content of their website. These individuals are still best found by ranking well in the search engines. The better you rank for your terms the more targeted traffic you get to your website. And it goes without saying that the more targeted traffic you get to your website the more money you will make online.

Over the next number of days I will discuss the factors that the experts say will help your website rank near the top of the search engines for your chosen keywords. I believe if you are to make money online, it is most important to understand how to rank highly in the search engines as opposed to sending off yet another Twitter message to a bunch of uninterested individuals.

I must admit that I am often confused by the Google and Yahoo rankings. I cannot quite figure out what causes a site to rank higher in their search engines than another. I know all of the correct answers but there are a lot of oddities. I want to take a look at four of my blogs as an example.

This site ranks for the phrase “make dollar a day” in Google but it shows up nowhere in Yahoo that I can find. It makes sense that it ranks in Google because “dollar a day” is part of the name of the blog. But why doesn’t it rank in Yahoo anywhere?

A second blog that I have, Burn Calories Lose Weight, ranks on the first or second page in Yahoo but it doesn’t show up anywhere in Google. The phrase is again in its name so I am not sure why this time Google doesn’t rank it higher and why does Yahoo give it such a high ranking?

My other blog, Bodyweight Exercise Online ranks well in Google but again it does not show up in Yahoo at all. I think it ranks toward the bottom of the third page in Google.

I have yet a fourth blog, Penny Stocks Trading, that follows the pattern. And you guessed, this one shows in Yahoo search rankings but cannot be found anywhere in Google for the phrase “penny stocks trading.”

As I said I cannot explain the discrepancies. I will try to investigate in the coming days and see if I can find any reason for this. Just thought it was sort of interesting.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have been doing a lot of reading about making money online (or as I put it in terms of this blog, “How to Make a Dollar a Day Online”). The biggest thing I have learned is the need for backlinks. Your backlinks and the quality of them will make or break your website and your ability to make money online.

I learned a little lesson about this experientially. I have another blog that I have recently started that is titled Bodyweight Exercise Online. I enjoy body weight exercises as a part of an overall exercise program so I thought I would blog about it. Well, anyway back to my story. As part of figuring out how Google Analytics works, I saw that it said that a number of people had visited the site through a particular post that I had made. I had taken some videos of my son doing a number of pushup variations and put it in a post. Well, one particular site scraped the content of the post and placed it on their site. However, he provided a link to my site to read the rest of the article. Well, half of the visits to the site came from this page. Most of the other visits to the site came through Google from a search on the term “push-up variations.”

Here is the interesting thing. This is the only post on the site with the words “push-up variations.” Yet I rank on the second page of Google for the term. How did this happen? I believe it occurred due to a few different factors. The first factor is the content. It is an original piece of writing that gives good information. There are 17 different push-up variations along with videos to demonstrate how to do them. Google likes content. The better the content the higher the page ranking if all other things are equal.

The second factor has something to do with the videos. I submitted them to YouTube but they can be found on many different video services. I put a link to the website in the description of the videos. I am guessing that this has had some sort of impact.

The third factor is the website that linked to my post. He provided two links to the website. One had the anchor text as the name of my blog (Bodyweight Exercise Online) and the other had “Read More” as the anchor text. When you get a relevant anchor text link for the keyword that your blog post or website is optimized for then in Google’s eyes you are viewed as more of an expert. As a result of this you get a higher ranking. So it would have been more beneficial for me if he had used the term “push-variations” in the link. But he did use BodyWeight Exercise Online in a link and I currently rank on the third page of Google for that term. I am convinced that without this link I would not have been ranked as high. I checked the page ranking of the aforementioned blog and found out that it has a PR of 3. My blog has a page rank of ZERO since it is a new blog. The higher the page rank of a site that provides you with an anchored text link the better it is. It gives you more authenticity. It also helps that the blog was a fitness blog. If it had been a blog about celebrity divorces then it would not have ranked as well.

By the way I have found two other blogs that scraped the content of the same post and did not provide a link. These site are enough to piss you off.

Understand the difference between a relevant anchored text link and one that isn’t. In the case I described “bodyweight exercise online” was a relevant text link. The second link which merely had “Read more” was not very relevant for my post or website.

Anchored text links are why it is important to do article marketing. It provides you the opportunity to leave a relevant text link back to your site on an article about the same subject. Some article directories have a pretty high PR so it lends some authority as well. A good practice would be to write three articles for each of your posts and upload them to the better article directories.

So to recap, if you ever hope to make money online or to make ten dollars a day from your site then you need traffic. In order to get traffic you need backlinks. Get out there and get some backlinks so that you can make money online.

I spent a lot of time this weekend doing a little research and reading. I have been busy creating sites on various topics on different platforms (blogger, weebly, wikidot, etc) over the last couple of weeks. Actually, to say that I have spent a lot of time is probably an understatement. I have been trying to figure out how to make money online or how to earn a dollar a day online for a little over month now. My kids wonder why their father who really never spent time online now sits in front of the computer continuously. My one son told me yesterday that I need a laptop. I agree with him. Actually, I think the problem is that I have interfered with their Facebook or MySpace accounts since we only have one computer. But I digress.

Let me share a little bit about what I have learned and what I have done. I currently have four articles on eHow. I noticed yesterday that I have made 19 cents this month already. If I continue to make money at this rate I should be able to retire in a month or so (ha!). Well, it is a good this that I am not in this to make mney online quickly. The traffic that is generated by eHow is pretty good. If I could monetize their traffic I might be able to make money online and make even more than a dollar a day online. They rank quite high in the search engines. I have two articles that consistently rank on page one or page two of Google for their particular search terms. This is good but there is really no way to monetize eHow articles aside of the paltry sums you get from them for someone clicking on the ads they place on the page. But since they rank so well in Google it should be good for providing links back to your main website or blog on the same topics.

I also have 4 articles on Hub Pages. I have a 5th written that I should put up sometime tomorrow. I didn’t seem to have much success here at first but they are beginning to generate a few page view. Hub Pages allows you to see where your traffic is coming from. So far about 1/5 of it is coming from Google. It is all for one article in particular. I don’t know what search term it is ranking for. I will have to try to figure this out. Again since Google is friendly to Hub Pages it would be a good site to use in your linking strategy in your attempt to make money online from your main site.

I have written 5 articles for Squidoo. Despite what I hear others say, they have generated crap in the way of traffic. I have done nothing different with them than I have with Hub Pages but I am having no luck. I see from searches in Googe that others are able to rank high but I have had no success. I did have initial success with my first article. But when I wrote a second article my first one fell off the map. I had heard other people talk about this happening but I kind of blew it off. Now I am a believer. I guess this means that you would have to set up multiple Squidoo accounts and only post a few articles in each account. Right now I will only use Squidoo in my linking strategy back to this site or one of my other sites. I currently do not expect to make money online from any article that I have on Squidoo. If any of that changes, I will let you know.

I decided to log in to my Adsense account last night and saw that I have made $1.73 this week. Wow that means I am almost up to $2 between this and eHow. That probably breaks out to about 5 cents per hour for the time I have put in this week. I know some will think this is a crazy way to try to make money (my wife is among them) but I view it as progress.

I looked at the adsense reports and cannot tell where the money was made. I will have to try to figure this out. I don’t know if it came from Hub Pages or one of the recent Blogger sites. My guess is Hub Pages since I know it gets Google traffic and I don’t think the Blogger blogs have been indexed yet.

In my next post I will tell you what I have learned about backlinks but have yet to really implement yet. There are only so many hours in the day.

Take Care.

I took the weekend off from posting. I had too many leaves to clean up in the yard and I spent time working on making some dining room chairs. I did get the article up on the blog and I also put it on Squidoo and Hub Pages. It was not the type of article that fit into eHow’s template.

Squidoo and Hub Pages don’t seem to generate much in the way of traffic to the previous article that I wrote on baseball scholarships. On eHow as of this morning I had 49 visits to the web page. Squidoo and Hub Pages basically had 0.

I will continue to write articles. However, I think my major thrust will be on eHow. I will probably produce a number of articles in the fitness arena that are short and sweet.

I have decided to start another blog to specifically make money. This blog basically tracks what I am doing. The other blog will be targeted to produce income. I will spend some time tonight trying to figure out what subject the blog will cover. I have some ideas but I need to do some research before beginning. Hopefully by tomorrow I will have a subject and maybe even a new domain. I have done some looking at Thirty Day Challenge. It has some good information. They are obviously trying to sell their product but the information that they give out is good. Check it out here.
